My experience lends itself precisely to the qualifications sought, and to demonstrate that I state the following:

  • I am currently a member of the Rhode Island and American Bar Associations;
  • Graduated in the top 20% of my class at New England School of Law;
  • Have researched and written extensively for my own clients as well as other attorneys and their clients;
  • Managed a successful law practice for ten years, prioritizing tasks and assignments for support staff and for myself;
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a body of rules, regulations and policies, especially as they relate to the amendment or creation of statutory law in the capacity of legal counsel to the RI Senate Committee on Highway Safety;
  • Hired, trained, and supervised legal interns and volunteers;
  • Monitored the progress of cases from intake to legal assignment;
  • Am familiar with the court's ECF document filing system; and have
  • Liased with other attorneys, legislators, and executive directors and their staffs, in a variety of capacities, and across the country.

My career as an attorney while working as a sole practitioner has been both rewarding and challenging. That is primarily the result of sometimes achieving the objectives of the client and sometimes not. But it is also the result of learning how to choose clients whose expectations are reasonable. Mostly, it is learning to master the art of communication, verbal and written. A properly worded letter or memorandum can serve to resolve a matter that otherwise might languish either on a desk or in the courts. The same is of course true about effective verbal communication and the use of genuine and honest interpersonal skills in developing professional relationships with others.

After ten years of practicing law directly, I feel ready to make a change in the nature and concentration of my work. This opportunity seems like such a wonderful chance to be able to use my experience and my skills in a fresh, new, interesting, and challenging way. I am smart. I am loyal. I am dependable. I am a good lawyer, and I'm a great assistant.
